4 Reasons your St. Louis Engagement Photos are a Pre-Wedding Must-Have

With a wedding on the calendar and a future with the love of your life stretching out in front of you, it’s tempting to throw yourself totally into the world of wedding planning with your eyes on the prize. But let’s slow down for a second and talk about the beautiful chapter you’re living now! Whether your engagement lasts just a few months or several years, it’s so brief by comparison to everything ahead. So, let’s ensure it’s documented it in a way you’ll be able to treasure for decades—let’s plan a breathtaking St. Louis engagement session!

Oh, you’re not convinced? You aren’t sure if an engagement session is for you? That’s alright! Let’s talk about my top four reasons why I encourage every couple to invest in meaningful, beautiful St. Louis engagement photos before their wedding day.

01. You’ll have true-to-you photos you can’t wait to use on a save the date and wedding website.

We all know how hard it can be to get good photos with your fiancé. Between the craziness of everyday life and the struggle to find a person who knows what they’re doing with a camera, getting that perfect shot is a rare occurence. So, as you start digging through old pictures to find the perfect ones for your announcements and website, you might be struggling. Hello, engagement photos!

But if you’re worried that your photos will be bland or just like everyone else’s, dont’ worry! I work with all my couples to ensure their sessions are truly representative of who they are, so the photos on your save the dates and wedding website are sure to make your guests smile.

02. It’s a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera BEFORE the big day.

I get it. We all get a little camera shy. But when it comes to documenting the most important day of your life—your wedding day—it’s important to feel relaxed and natural when the camera’s turned toward you. Engagement photos give you a chance unlike any other to loosen up, practice posing, and feel more confident when your wedding day arrives.

I always find that the couples who choose to do an engagement session beforehand feel so much better on the wedding day. The candids feel even more natural because they are used to having a camera around, and portraits feel less stiff because they’ve done these poses before.

Think of your engagement session as a test run before the big event, or even as a fun date with the benefit of photos to remember it all!

03. You can customize your guestbook with your photos.

I encourage all my couples to get a custom engagement album made prior to the wedding, so their guests can enjoy the photos in a tangible way. You can even ask guests to write notes to you two inside the book. This is more than just an extra interactive element for guests to enjoy—it’s a precious family heirloom you’ll treasure so much more than a guestbook you pick up at the craft store.

Your photographer may even make this step super easy for you! I offer custom album design to my clients, taking the pressure off this portion of the process.

04. Spend some quality time with your photographer before the wedding

If you don’t have an engagement session, there’s a chance you won’t get to meet your photographer in person before the big day arrives. And who wants to spend hours on the best day of your life with a complete stranger? No thank you!

I prefer getting to meet clients in person prior to the wedding so we can truly get to know each other. This way, I feel like a supportive friend rather than a vendor as I witness some of the most important moments of your life. Plus, this means there’s one less unknown you have to worry about as the celebration approaches.

I believe there’s no better way to celebrate an upcoming wedding than with an engagement photo session. Not only does it give you beautiful photos to use and practice in front of the camera, it’s a special way to commemorate this fleeting chapter in your love story.

And if you haven’t yet booked one, the St. Louis engagement photography experience of your dreams is just a few clicks away! Visit my contact page, tell me more about yourself and your vision for engagement photography, and let’s get your session on my calendar. Talk soon!
